What Do Bus Warranties Typically Cover?

The question in the title is very difficult to answer because bus warranties are very complex documents. In today’s blog, we’re going to discuss the ins and out of bus warranties.

Bus warranties are not like car warranties. And that is because buses often have more than one manufacturer. There is typically an initial manufacturer who builds and installs the chassis, engine, and drivetrain, but then, often, there is another manufacturer who builds and installs a lot of the bus after that first part is finished.

So, with a new bus, you would already have two documents from two different companies outlining the limits of coverage of what they each built and installed. Then, assuming you buy from a dealer, a dealer will often add a third layer of warranty beyond the first two.

This is something you would need to discuss in detail with the dealer, and it might even be negotiable.

In a used bus, it could get even more complicated. You would have to find out (or the dealer could) if there is any time or mileage left on the original warranty (or warranties), and if the maintenance on the bus had been attended to as required—so as not to void the warranty.
