Western Canada Winter Bus Maintenance Checklist

Western Canada Winter Bus Maintenance Checklist

All buses that run in the winter, especially those that operate in cold, windy, and snowy conditions have or should have a winter bus maintenance checklist. In today’s blog article, we would like to remind our readers what should be on your checklist.

Tires

Tires is a big one. Are the tires in good shape? Are they the appropriate tires for the conditions? Are they inflated to the correct pressure? Pressure is easy to check and should be done every morning while the bus is cool.

Heating

Do the heating work properly on the inside. Is heat coming out of all the registers. This is important because you cannot transport passengers in winter if your heat does not work. Have vents been cleaned out? Has the heating been tested before the day you need to operate the bus?

Battery

Check the battery and how much life it has left in it. If there is any doubt, then change it now. Batteries are notorious for not working well in extreme cold. You definitely do not want to be stopped with a bus full of passengers and dead battery.

Coolant and Anti-Freeze

These are indispensable in the cold weather. Make sure you have what you need, and everything is topped up.

We would recommend a complete maintenance check of the whole bus in anticipation of cold weather, but these are the four parts that must be checked before going out when the conditions are particularly bad. Hopefully your maintenance crew will remind you of this need for special precautions in winter.
