Summer Bus Maintenance Tips

Summer bus maintenance is important, and the hotter the weather, the more important this maintenance becomes. We always urge our clients to maintain their buses on a regular fixed schedule because this prevents a lot of problems.

That said, here are some summer maintenance tips.

Air Conditioning

We recently devoted a whole blog article to potential air conditioning issues in buses. It is super important that your air conditioning is working properly in the summer, and aside from regular maintenance, check for any leaking coolant which is one the main reasons that air conditioners fail. Air conditioners require a certain amount of coolant to work efficiently, and if any of that coolant is missing, the air conditioner needs attention.

Tires

Always check the tires for wear and replace them if needed. Check tire pressures frequently when the bus is cold and standing level. A tire that is regularly losing pressure may have some damage, which may be able to be fixed if caught early.

Your bus may have logged a lot more miles in the summer than it did in the winter, and that means more wear and tear on tires.

Windshield Washer Fluid

Check the windshield fluid. Long highway drives may make your windshield really dirty, and you may not have had much rain to rinse off the windows. Make sure you have plenty of washer fluid in case you need it.

Lights

Make sure all your lights, signal lights, and brake lights are in good running order. These are all important for your safety and the safety of others on the road.

You may not be able to have your buses out of service for long during the busy summer months, so we have listed some quick checks for you, above. Quick checks, though, are no substitute for complete professional maintenance on your buses to keep them in good running order.
