Is an Electric Shuttle Bus Right for You?
Our company has been supplying and servicing buses for over 30 years. And we currently have an electric shuttle bus available for purchase or lease, a 2023 Ford Micro Bird G5. In today’s blog, we would like to talk about electric shuttle buses and why it may or may not be a good choice for you and your business.
Pros
There are several advantages to an electric shuttle bus. It is better for the environment. There is no smelly exhaust, and electricity is considered clean energy. If environmental impact is important in your business plan, then an electric shuttle bus is a clear winner.
An electric bus is cheaper to maintain and run. You do not have all the moving parts associated with gasoline or diesel, parts that break down and need regular maintenance and replacement.
It is easy to charge a bus to “refuel” and depending on how many kilometers per day the shuttle needs to travel, charging once a day is probably sufficient.
Cons
A shuttle bus needed to travel long distances may need charging more than once a day. In that case, it is possible that the electric bus may not be the most convenient. So there need to be some calculations on the range of the bus and kilometers needed to travel daily.
The upfront cost may be higher than a gasoline or diesel bus. This higher upfront cost may dissuade some businesses even though the advantages outweigh the disadvantages over the longer term. However, it is possible that leasing an electric bus may prove to be the financial answer.
