Getting Your Bus Ready for Summer
Summer is a great season for bus owners and drivers. People travel a lot during the summer months, so you are going to be busy. You get to meet a lot of great people and see different places. Of course, if you are going to have a good season, your bus has to be in running order. With that in mind, you need to get your bus ready for summer.
Check the A/C
Check the tension and condition of your bus’s A/C compressor belt. If your belt has not been used, it needs to have 20 pounds of tension. If you have a used belt, it should be 17 pounds of tension. After you check the tension, make sure the belt has all of its ribs.
Next, make sure the condenser and evaporator coils are clean. Then move on to the compressor crankshaft seal and the system refrigerant hoses. If they contain oil residue, they might be leaking so get them fixed before you put your tires on the road.
Check the Tires
Make sure they have the right amount of pressure. Check your bus’s manual to find out how much pressure they should have.
Also, check the tire’s tread. At the minimum, tread should be 3.2mm deep during the summer months.
Finally, check the axle alignment. The drive axles need to be perpendicular to the chassis centreline. Your steer axles need to have the right camber, caster, and toe settings.
Add Some Bottled Water to Your Bus
If you work in tourism, consider adding some bottled water to your bus when summer rolls around. Your guests will enjoy the thought and it will keep everyone hydrated and happy. Happy customers make the ride more pleasant for the driver as well, so this is a very nice touch.
Make sure you take care of everything before you start running your bus for the summer. That way, you can cut down on unexpected maintenance and dissatisfied customers.
