How to Choose Whether to Buy a New or Used School Bus

Posted on Jan 30th, 2019

When the time comes to purchase a new school bus for your business, you will want to make sure you are making the best informed decision that you can. One of the choices you will be faced with is whether to buy new or used. There a pros and cons to both of these to consider when looking into school bus sales.

Pros and Cons of buying new

The main pro of buying a new bus is you have the flexibility to choose the options that you want. If there are specific amenities you want in the school bus, you may save time and money ordering a new bus with these already installed, as opposed to having these installed in an older, used bus.

In addition, with a new bus, you know that it will most likely be reliable and not need maintenance for quite a while. It will also come with that new bus smell.

The downside to purchasing new is the upfront price will be much higher than a used school bus for sale. However, over a long period of time, this may be partially offset but lower maintenance costs.

Pros and Cons of buying used

Used buses will undoubtedly come with a cheaper price tag upfront. The initial price and investment can save you thousands of dollars. In addition, a used school bus from Dynamic Specialty vehicles has undergone rigorous inspection and should be performing as expected.

Used buses do require maintenance sooner then a new bus. This brings the negatives of not only costs associated with this maintenance, but also time in which the bus is out of commision. With a new bus, you may avoid having this happen as often.

So which to choose?

Unfortunately, there is not right answer. If you are on a budget for upfront price, consider buying a used, but if initial price is not a factor, new may be a more appealing option. It is also important to consider a new bus will have a longer lifespan with you then that of a used school bus. If you are looking for a bus to serve you for a long time, then new may better serve that option.

Whatever choice you make, rest assured that you will find a bus that suits your needs and helps to transport passengers safely for years to come.
